Document Summary
The body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. Based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles or reasoning. So: use of the scientific method helps to minimize those influences when developing a theory. Affect our opinion by working with other people that share similar views. If you spend time or discuss work with people who don"t share your opinions it forces you to defend your beliefs. Cognitive bias: includes conformational and contextual bias: example: statistics. Managing flow of information in a lab. Example: confessions, eyewitness identification: might not let the people know that there"s been an eye witness identification or that the person has confessed. Work in a linear fashion: evidence from crime scene, comparison samples from suspect. Example: cctv video explanation, psychological assessment of suspect. Not the same as developing a new research; more of an applied science.
