Document Summary

> it is a hypothesis that is untestable. A hypothesis is a provisional statement that proposes a possible explanation for a particular observed phenomenon. The idea of a causal relationship is implied in a hypothesis (if x happens then y happens; things happen through a causal relationship; that"s how it"s linked) For example: superstitions are primitive hypotheses (because we think this thing caused this thing to happen ) In environmental science, we try to understand the effects of humans on the environment and vice versa. Good hypotheses breed (not necessarily one that is good; but one that when tested, other ideas come forward/are opened up) A null hypothesis is a statement of no effect & it is when experimental results are analyzed to see whether they support the alternate hypothesis or the null. The null is the default or the statement of no effect and the default is that there is no relationship.
