Environment encompasses physical, biotic, abiotic, and social/cultural environments, and the interactions among them. Science informs our attempts to solve and prevent environmental problems. Environmental science helps us understand how the environment works and our relationship with the environment. We try to reflect all of these ideas in the course. Everyone should acquire a basic scientific understanding of the environment. The study of the environment is, by necessity, an interdisciplinary undertaking. We are all part of an academic teaching- learning community.
