Document Summary
When we make a portrayal of a cycle = model. Models this includes physical models (like a terrarium), landscape drawings (drawing of a cycle these are based on interpretation), box models, mathematical models. In box models, each box represents a reservoir this box can have a number which represents mass or content of material (this make it quantitative) Box models are the 1st step in developing mathematical + computational models. Content or burden of reservoir = this is the mass of substance in reservoir. Content = concentration x mass of reservoir. Compare: a small, high concentration reservoir and large, low centration reservoir. Even though the sizes are different (mass of reservoir is different), can still have same amount of content because of concentration. These arrows represent transfer processes (exchange of element). Transfer processes allow substances to move from 1 reservoir to another. Transfer processes = labels on arrows (processes like weathering, evaporation, precipitation).
