Document Summary

There are three different chaucer"s here: chaucer the poet (the person who actually wrote the story, chaucer the narrator (the person telling the story, chaucer the pilgrim (the character in the story) Narrators and frames: the story of the pilgrims telling stories is the frame, the stories that the pilgrims tell are framed. Friendly, outgoing (he gets to know all 30 of these people) Chaucer the narrator says in the beginning i screwed this up . The narrator plays with you, he"s unsure of himself he can"t be trusted. He isn"t in control of the material. Chaucer the author however knows exactly what he"s doing. Chaucer the narrator makes glorifies him despite the fact that he"s clearly a horrible person (a pirate) *note the difference between what the author writes and how the narrator says it. There"s this idea of satire (chaucer the poet presents himself as dumber than he is) He coaxes people out of their money.
