Document Summary

A narrative is defined in broad terms as one of the basic ways in which humans think. Narratives are used in many walks of life such as art, politics and business. Narrative is how we organize our individual experiences. In literary and cultural studies, a text is recognized as anything that can be read or interpreted. Examples are vast, they include but are not limited to films, songs, poems and novels. All stories are texts but not all texts are stories. Stories have several elements that are not always present in texts. 1-sequence: taking place in time, 2-characters: is about specific people, 3- particularity: is more specific in nature, 4- tellability: is about something worth sharing. Another notable difference between texts and stories is the conveyance of experience. For example, a text may provide you with the definition of a ghost but a story may tell you what an encounter with one would be like.
