CCT208H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Design Of Experiments, Stratified Sampling, Cohort Study
Document Summary
Note: chapter 3 covers a lot of ground, this lecture, focus on types of design, show some implications of design type. Three kinds of design: case study, experimental, field experiments, natural experimental, quasi-experimental, cross-sectional, longitudinal. Some people don"t want to generalize but they want to get into specifics you focus on one thing that you get to do a whole research on that certain case. Field experiments: similar to regular experiments, occur in an everyday setting, happens in the real world, example: the study on mobile phones and how people could stay in touch. So : so why don"t these issues happen in experimental designs, because you isolate all the other variables. Quasi-experimental longitudinal designs: it happens more than one time, longitudinal, trend study, cohort study, panel study. Panel study: same people studied over time, video, world in action film, group of individual interviewed every 7 years for more than 30 years.
