AST101H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Planetary System
Document Summary
Chapter 10 - discovery of other solar systems. Thursday, november 26, 2015. If the nebular theory is correct, then planets form when stars form. Called extrasolar planets or exoplanets bc they are exterior to our solar systems. Stars are huge and emit tremendous amounts of light. Planets are very tiny and only reflect a small fraction Bc a star is so much brighter and larger than its planets. Must eliminate blurring by earth"s atmosphere. Must block out the star"s light to see the much fainter next to the star. Must prove any detection is really a planet. Planets orbit around the star over time. Planets move with the star through space.
