Sexual selection: advantage that certain individuals have over other individuals of the same sex, darwin made a distinction between primary sexual traits and secondary sexual traits. Solely in respect to reproduction: sexual traits that occur with organizing dose of androgen are related specifically to the act of reproduction. Intrasexual competition: outmaneuver or drive away other members of the same sex, attract members of the opposite sex. 2 ways for intrasexual competition to occur: direct sense out smart, out compete for access to a fertile mate, be more attractive indirect competition, attracting more fertile partners. Whereas females, their physiology has a large determining factor on their reproductive success. Females are limited by their own physiology whereas males are limited by their sexual behaviour. Success of male reproductive effort: model to explain earlier male mortality, dependent on the reproductive effort of male competitors, young males of reproductive age, have higher mortality rates than females of the same age.
