Document Summary
What differentiates our hominin ancestors: large brain size (encephalization, dentition, tool making behavior standardized, predates human evolution, uniform mode of production and function, something we see with genus homo, habitual bipedal locomotion e. g. eoanthropus dawsoni (piltdown man) Human bipedalism: forward foramen magnum, spine, balsin pelvis, long lower limbs, valgus position, foot changes, shock absorber (curve of feet) Advantages of bipedalism: as tropical environment changed to savanna like environment, apes came down from trees and became bipedal, see farther, freed the hands travel long distances. Disadvantages of bipedalism: more visible to predators, expose underbelly, limits ability to change direction, reduces speed, lower backaches, leg & foot injury. Who are the missing links of hominoids to hominins: orrorin tugenesis, 6-mya. Important individuals within species: know whethere they are robust or gracile, weather from east or south africa, know species name, when they lived, cranial capacity, whey they are significant, who found them. Cranial anatomy: generally ape-like, human-like (thick enamel)
