Basic level words, (a kind of symbol something that stands for something else) A sign is anything which stands to somebody for something else in some respect of capacity. Smoke is a sign of fire natural meaning . Connection between smoke and fire is not humanly created it is a natural connection/ meaning. Pointing to fire (respect of capacity; fire creates smoke), image of fire (resemblance because of the depiction) non-natural meaning (no connection to the fire it is something humans created. So, persons have the ability to recognize natural signs. They also have the ability to produce non-natural signs. Non-natural meaning humans get other humans to recognize that they intend to communicate by means of sign. So, language involves the use of signs.
