Primatology: study of non-human primate biology and behaviour. Wing of a bird and wing of a bat. Homology: characteristic similar in 2 ways, but different function. Leg of a dog and leg of a human. Primate characteristics: arboreal (life in trees) generalized limbs, stereoscopic vision , 3d vision- judge distance through vision. Binocular vision and color vision: highly developed sense of touch, enlarged complex brain, retention of less specialized dentition (reflection of diet, primate skeleton. Reduced snout and increased in round cranial volt. Post orbital bar (enclosed eye socket) (complete post orbital bar) Prehensibility: been able to grasp: reproduction & care of young. Reduction in the number of offspring born at one time to a female. Longer period of infant dependency on the mother. Small body , grooming claw, large ears,unfused mandible. True brachiators (very long arms, primary way to move by swinging) Sexual dimorphism- silver back gorilla, male much larger than female.
