Sex drive: motivational force that propels individuals to seek sexual union. We see the desire to engage in sexual activity has been present in evolution. Is primitive yet powerful engine underlying the behaviour of all animals, including humans. Is powerful but doesn"t need a complex mechanism for it. Ex: c. elegans are some type of worms in soil that oney have 100 neutrons and they express a sex drive, they engage in mate searching. 2 overlapping phases of male sexual behaviour: appetitive phase: equivalent to courtship, involves all the behaviours the male uses to gain access to the female. Lasts the longest, man will spend the most time in this phase. Ex: searching for females, ghting for territory, advertising, providing food for females, etc.
