Processes: do not want to confuse the process of change with the techniques used to achieve it, can use different techniques to raise continues, bibliotherapy, self help books, media, not the process in themselves, dramatic relief. Cognitive and emotional aspects: techniques = clarify values identifying healthy role models, environmental reevaluation, self liberation about the idea of change, idea of commitment/recommitment if you slip up, social liberation, some of these come form behavioural psych. Counter conditioning: is learning healthy behaviours that are substituted for problematic behaviours, ex relaxation for stress, cannot be stressed and relaxed at the same time. Stimulus control: what are cues for unhealthy habits, ex junk food in the house. Reinforcement management: taking steps in a positive reaction, rewards etc.
