Document Summary
Impacting her life so she wants to get it treated (even describing it as irrational) In her case she has no idea how the fear began. It is possible that there is a significant trauma in her life that has been repressed because it is to difficult to deal with, but these traumas will emerge in some ways and affect our lives. Behaviourists would argue that fears happen because the phobia is because of experience and worsens because of lacking of exposure (being away is fine, but being in contact with the root of the phobia makes it worse) The anxiety is really the thing that needs to be faced, not so much the cause of the fear. Through exposure and different situations with the cause of the fear, the anxiety will diminish. Counts on the facts that the phobia/strong reaction is not sustainable and eventually we leave the state of panic and calm down.
