Document Summary

Defined as a fraction or proportion of all possible outcomes. If the probability of outcomes are identified as a, b, c, d & so on then: probability of a = number of outcomes classified as a total number of possible outcomes. Probability of specific outcome expressed as p followed by specific outcome - ex. p (king) Defined as proportion or part of the whole. The definition we are using identifies probability as a fraction or a proportion. These fractions can be expressed as decimal or percentages. All prob values are contained in range from 0 to 1. If event never occurs: prob is 0%; if event occurs: 1 or 100% Outcomes can be obtained by process called simple random sample - requires each individual in pop has an equal chance of being selected. Independent random sampling: if 1 or more individual is being selected, prob must stay constant from 1 selection to next.
