Attachment happens during the second half of the first year of their life. Attachment is the balance between exploring the environment but maintaining proximity to the parent. Mary ainsworth = came up with strange situation procedure. Caregiver frightened/frightening secure is the most prevalent type avoidant: will not show distress bc when they are distressed, their parent rejects them (does not comfort) disorganized: want the parent but the parent also scares them. General procedures: two 1. 5-2 hour lab visits; one with the father and one with the mother; optional home visit. Phase 1: 3 5 yr olds (done) Phase 2: 7 9 yr olds (currently collecting data)
