Document Summary
Emoion-a response of the whole organism, involving physiological arousal, expressive behaviours, and conscious experience. The theory that our experience of emoion is our awareness of our physiological responses to emoion-arousing simuli. (angry because we strike, sorry because we cry, etc. ) Emoion arousing simulus simultaneously triggers physiological responses and the subjecive experience of emoion. (heart pounding as fear is experienced) Believed that an emoional experience requires a conscious interpretaion of arousal. Two factor theory-to experience emoion one must be physically aroused and cogniively label the arousal. Spillover efect-arousal spills over from one event to the next. We have many emoional reacions apart from our interpretaion of a situaion. High road-some emoions, especially complex ones follow this path through the cortex, and sent out to the amygdala for response. Low road-neural shortcut that bypasses the cortex, enabling quick reacions. Most emoions travel on the low road, they don"t require conscious thinking. We are good at detecing non verbal clues, but not expressions.
