The study of how we develop and change throughout the lifespan. The stage of development between conception and birth. The union of the sperm and the ovum. Meet in the fallopian tube: digestive enzymes, block other sperm, nuclei fuse. 23-24 weeks age of liability, it doesn"t mean your going to survive but you have a shot. Harmful agents in the prenatal environment that can cause birth defects. Most harmful during first 3 months (1st trimester) Built in responses (reflexes) - sucking, swallowing, coughing, blinking. Remove something placed over their face, rooting reflex, feeding, cry. Babies get bored after looking at the same thing for a long time. Attachment: a social and emotional tie with another person. First attachment will be with your parents, grandparents & siblings. They will venture out to explore but return periodically to check in. Starts to increase around 6 months, and then peaks around 13 months.
