Eu population compared to the rest of the world, massive entity (third, behind china and india) In surface area, less of a big entity. Bigger population has an impact on economy / industry. Bigger countries feel you need to drive policies, and the smallest countries fear that aspect. Poorer countries are in eastern europe, and vice versa. As an entity the eu is big and powerful, but it"s still composed of 28 different states that have differences among themselves. Founders: new ideas for lasting peace and prosperity. Robert schuman (france minister of foreign affair) proposed a plan to establish a community to regulate the coal and steel industries across the border (germany + France and whoever wanted to join) : devoted christian democrat from loraine (territorial dispute over this town) Coal and steel are the main industries for war (extremely significant)
