Document Summary

During world war ii nazi physicians performed horrible experiments on the prisoners of war and civilians. They were injected with diseases such as cholera, smallpox, typhus, malaria and other diseases to see the effects of these illnesses on the human body as well as to try to find a cure for them. The prisoners were maimed to mimic battle wounds nazi soldiers could face during the war. In 1947 these nazi physicians were found guilty and were convicted of murders, tortures, and the experiments all committed under the name of medical science. In 1932 the us public health service started a 40 year experiment on 600 poor black men. They were deceived about the nature of the study and were not informed that they had syphilis and so weren"t treated for it while there was a cure, penicillin available. From 1944 to 1974 the us government sponsored secret experiments to determine the effects of radiation on the human body.
