Defi nitions of morality: a preliminary definition: morality serves two universal human needs. It regulates conflicts of interest between people, and it regulates conflicts of interest within the individual born of different desires and different drives that cannot all be satisfied at the same time. Individual component: sorting out personal decisions depending on your values and interests o: when different people have different interests regulates those conflicts o. Interest may be too broad of a term. What types of interests count as moral interests: morality = the system of regulating conflicting interests, not all systems of regulation are moral: e. g. everyone under 5 feet should get a donut. Both beg the question of what types of interests and what criteria for regulation make these interests and these criteria for regulating them moral. The nature of value ii: the best way to live.
