There are many different ways to analyze arguments. If you don"t analyze an argument properly, you won"t be able to. It is artificial and arbitrary, but necessary to evaluate to gain a clearer. See if you can identify the conclusion (main argument) first. Identify any inference indicators (since, because, so, therefore, thus, etc. ) Rule out all explanations, questions, report of fact, disputes, commands, etc. Figure out if the argument is simple (one conclusion) or complex (at least one intermediate conclusion) Identify the conclusion in the simple argument and identify the main conclusion and all intermediate conclusions in the complex argument. Ignore or take out any parts of the passage that do belong to the argument. Rephrase or reformulate the claims when necessary to help understand them better. Do what you can as you can. Start with what is clear and build from.
