Incidence is the number of new cases of the disease occurring in a time period divided by the total number of people at risk for that disease in that time period. Years of life lost (ylls) = the burden from premature mortality in a population. Years lived with disability (ylds) = the burden to a population from nonfatal health conditions. An example of incidence and prevalence that cause significant short- or long-term reduction in health status. Disability-adjusted life year (daly) = the total burden of disease in a population from both premature deaths and disability.
