Aim to gather info to investigate and understand health issues, solve health problems or improve quality care. May inquire into causes, diagnosis, and prevention of diseases; promote health; health care of indiv. /group; effects of environment. Directed to understand biological, physiological, psychological, social, behavioral, environmental mechanisms that influence health, wellness, illness, and disability. Change to environment and not individual level. Medical and research community identified them with depression. General lack of respect that research community had for ppl with disabilities and how. Described as worldview, a way of making sense of the world and reality; help researchers figure out how to go abt a project. Provides lens to develop, initiate, and continue particular research tradition (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1: a) positivistic/empirico-analytical research paradigm. World is an objective reality that can be studied, measured, and understood accurately. Findings are claimed true or facts; values objectivity. Focus on how researcher will separate themselves from the research process.
