Disability viewed as illness or impairment problem that needs to be fixed by health professionals (1950-1970) Reductionist reduce person to specific body parts and functions for analysis and treatment. Diagnostic and treatment focused; cure, adjustment (to society designed for dominant pop. ), behavior change (to accept their defect), maximize function. Person with disability required to comply with treatments due to lack of knowledge to make another solution. Pressure sores develop from increased pressure over long time due to skin breaking down b/c of reduced blood flow (common in bony regions; heels, elbows, tailbone) four stages. Can become more client centered approach by analyzing the cause of the medical problem. Political level modify and reform health care policy.
