Nutrition is the science of foods and the nutrients they contain, and of their actions within the body. It includes the social, economic, cultural, and psychological implications of food and eating: food choices. People decide what to eat, when to eat, and even whether to eat in highly personal ways. They depend on preferences (taste), habit, tradition, social interactions, availability, convenience, economy, positive/negative associations, emotions, values, body weight/image, and health bene ts: the nutrients. Nutrients are chemical substances obtained from food and used in the body to provide energy, structural materials, and regulating agents to support growth, maintenance, and repair of the body"s tissues. We can also classify nutrients as essential (indispensable from out diet) and non-essential: energy density. Nutrient density is the most nutrients for the least food energy. Foods with high energy density deliver more kcalories than foods with a low energy density. Fuel supports all body activities and storage for later use.
