Allusion: A poets deliberate incorporation of identifiable elements from other sources, preceding or
contemporaneous
Hyperbole: a figure of speech consisting of exaggerated or extravagant statement used to express
strong feelings or produce a strong impressio ad ot iteded to e uderstood literally
Reie of Oid’s etaorphosis – strong female stories of rape or attempted rape –often shown as
male failure – point is Ovid is a troublesome writer- he wanted to cause trouble- spark thought – the art
that comes out of these stories comes from sadness – be able to see from both sides and understand
but also from a third party also- see it from 3 sides all at once and not at all – see the whole picture
When looking at Smart today- this is the best and the worst thing that has ever happened to her- a yes
and situation
