Class 2: caedmon"s hymn , the wanderer and the ruin . Most moving poetry in his own language, that is to say english [anglice] . He hymn is set by remarks about caedmon"s language. The final remarks after the poem are about translation. The language i am writing in is not the language caedmon sang in. Bede"s perspective on language is that his is the sweetest and most moving, but. In bede"s original text the tory is presented in latin while also distinguishing between biblical songs and vain songs. Anglice is a lower level of language while latin was always on the top. Bede never made any attempt to give the language in english. Many hundreds of years later someone went back and translated it to english. This happened only twice (8th century and 10th century) Southern kingdoms were all united at the time (political background)
