Ten part series on policing and security thought of clifford shearing cbc radio broadcast. Half of arrests in dt to last year was made by a private company. More hiring of private security most places are privately policed now: has implications for security and the state. Public and private distinction is taken for granted: many spaces do not fit this distinction anymore , straddle the boundary now. He began to be interested in power and how it is distributed in a dispersed way. Policing = a place you see power operating: but other ways this power is exercised, so started looking at private security because no one was paying attention to. 2/3 of security officers were employed privately. We chose not to see these other things: = private security not generally taken into account.
