CRM 2309 Lecture 11: Social determinants of health
Document Summary
Women"s health & social issues: example of a woman who had cataracts and despite her complaints it didn"t get dealt with until she got released but it was very advanced. Coping with effects of institutionalization and release: often picked up on gambling in order to cope, being able to get there was sometimes a struggle. Elderly who have trouble walking may not be able to even get to the bus stop in the cold when its icy everywhere and far. Cacc: community care access centre: get yourself on the waiting list for a family physician, transition from hospital setting to long term care. Its almost like its us against the world (the prisoners): when it comes down to hurting someone you know, nobody talks about that. We focused a lot on aging in prison and pregnancy so concentrate on that!
