CRM 2307 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Consciousness Raising, Heterosexuality, Essentialism
Document Summary
Todays lecture on womens place and gender pay ineqaulity. 10:52 today we talk about how we can make sense of gender based violence. An issue that has never been front and centered. 1st wave feminist: linked violence to alchohol and were supported of movements to stop domestic violence, and seen it as a working class men problem. 1970s analysis of violence against womens becomes central to the analysis and sees rape and sexual violence as something that helps men. A regulatory tactic and all men benefit from the rape of women, they define heterosexuality as violent . and theres the idea of biologism that men are one way and women are another way. And this is really problematic with little cultural of physchology analysis to it: another problem is the analysis is focused on gender and no integration of class or race. Essentialism is done with the idea that all women experience the same thing.
