They share the spoiled identity of the stigmatized person of whom they"re affiliated with, in the eyes of others, they too are discounted. A lot of the research that has been done reinforces the idea that this is something that people automatically assumes. If you"re choosing to be associated with someone in prison, there"s something fishy about you; If you"re family with a prisoner, you"d likely share some attributes. Criminality is born from toxic and failed families that have failed to socialize people in positive ways; This is basically a courtesy stigma because you haven"t done anything wrong but you wanting to be affiliated with these people make you a morally suspected individuals: ceremonies of degradation. They"re forced to engage in activities/change themselves that don"t aligned with their home world-self. All the things that are being asked of them will materialize their degraded status. It"ll fail to corroborate your sense of who you are.
