Individual who won, meant that god intervened and that"s why they won. If you had a higher social status you were beheaded. Trial by cursed morsel: clergy member, people of the church, only used on them, given apiece of food. If the individual chocked they were guilty, if didn"t choke they were innocent. The king"s justice: a demonstration of power: spectacle and impress, everyone came to watch, power of king"s mercy, take or grant life, lesson pain, protect emerging economic/social/political systems. If accused died without being convicted, state couldn"t take away your property. Individual is whipped: painful, scars will never leave, constant reminder of the punishment and crime you committed, other people will see that you"re a criminal as well.
