Not to say that our justice system only operates on these policies. Could be a result of a disagreement, poverty, necessity, wanting to get around work/laziness, greediness, lack of something needed to get what is wanted, anger, jealousy, etc. Some people want to go to prison as a form of shelter, for example. Corrections meaning prison, house arrest, etc- purpose being rehabilitation, punishment, protection of society as these individuals are removed from it, detterent. Maybe, but i think we"d have to look at the circumstances to get a good judgement, but at the same time, a minimum sentence would make the system more equalized, and minimize judges using discretion wrongly. Focus only on the act (sentence fits the offence not offender) Focus on due process (rights of the accused are followed) Principle of proportionality (serverity of punishment should fit the crime) Punishment fits the seriousness of the offence.
