Examples: prior offences, vulnerability of victim(abuse of a child, crimes against the elderly, mental/physical condition, lack of cooperation, hate crime(bias, prejudice, etc. , crimes relating terrorism, pre-meditation, domestic crimes, abuse of position of trust/authority, victim impact statement- large impact. Factor that a judge considers to hand down a lesser sanction. Ordered by the judge to help the judge make the best decision when handing down a sentence. Probation officer completes the report; they investigate the offender. Helps paint a picture of the offender to the judge(family, employment record, hobbies, motivations, mental health status, prior convictions + the sanctions given and if they were helpful etc. ) ~around 11 pages takes about a month to complete. Helps corrections, probation officers in figuring out a rehabilitation plan. Found guilty, they don"t get anything put on their record, no conviction.
