Mycenae is located in the helladic region called the peloponnese. (cid:1) In the 2nd century ce, pausanias, a travel writer said about the city: Part of the circuit walls are still left including the gate which is surmounted by lions. These are said to be the work of the cyclopes. (c/f p. 39) Large stones fitted together on the outside and inside the rubble filling the gap between. (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) The classical greeks invented giants to explain things like the size of the stones used to build mycenae. Heinrich schliemann was a german explorer who excavated mycenae in search of king agamemnon"s grave. (cid:1) (cid:1) Many things were found in the shaft graves at mycenae: ceremonial bronze daggers, gold cups, ivory, rhyton, gold jewellery, lots of gold (cid:1) (cid:1)
