BPS 1101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Decongestant, Sinusitis, Pseudoephedrine
Document Summary
More than 200 viruses cause colds, primarily rhinovirus. No way to tell between cold and flu except doing an actual test on virus. Virus destroys tissue in respiratory system; immune system stimulated which causes symptoms. No cure for the common cold nothing that you take for it makes a different. Some cold medications lessen severity of symptoms though, but make no difference to actually treat you. Sneezing doesn"t transmit colds that well discovered this using a sneeze collector, an apparatus that collected mucus. Being cold does not cause colds measured by keeping one group cold, one group warm, gave both the virus, found that neither being warm nore being cold made a difference, same with wet hair etc. We notice a pattern because colds are associated with a particular type of year when you"re cold. Direct exposure to virus does not always cause cold.
