Microsociology: examining real-life behaviours of people in society. Critical of macro approaches that make general statements about social structures without taking into account the role of the individual. George herbet mead"s mind, self and society taken from his lecture notes argued that people have important roles in interpreting and making sense of the world around them. Social context and social interaction are critical in determining human behaviour. From this, his student herbert blumer coined the expression symbolic interactionism. Examines how people give a sense of self. But this sense of self is dynamic and relational. Self is how one perceives the self and how the person is thought to be perceived by others. He explains this through his i and me. The i is more the internal component of the self, whereas the me is how we perceive ourselves based on how we think others perceive us.
