Document Summary

Study of the relationship between people and tasks. He wanted to reduce time a worker spent on each task by optimizing the way in which the task was completed. The right worker for a specific job with the right abilities. Train workers to do job and reward them. Study and codify select and train = reward. Managers implement the increased output side of taylors plan. Did not allow workers to share the increased output. Management responded with increased use of machines. Select people that are best for a certain job. Frank and lillian gilbreth refined taylor"s method. They made improvements to motion studies: break down each action into components. Gilbreths vs. taylor: gilbreths studies were focused on how the task was completed and how to eliminate unneeded steps. Gilbreths form of scientific management was more focused on a developed view of the worker"s interest. Taylors view of the worker was driven by money and the pay.
