L. o. s. e. r principle- a principle used in all major cases as far as investigations go, a guideline to make sure all investigations are performed in the same fashion. L is for listen- as an investigator you aren"t the first person on the scene. So you must listen to the first responders (fire, ambulance and police), dispatcher and the person who called in the first place. When listening you must decide who to listen to and to what extent. Whether or not you have to listen to the victim depends on the crime that you"re dealing with. O is for observe- you want to start observing from the moment you get the call. If an incident occurs, you should start looking at the exits of the scene to see if any possible suspects are leaving.
