History of youth justice: the history of yj is focused on the period from the 16th 20th century. Period of development of 16th 20th century (depending on the country you"re in) Youth age group: doesn"t have to be evolved around age, can be based on life experiences. The old story about why a separate youth system emerges: based on work of phillipe aries, his argument is that a separate yjs emerges because of the discovery of childhood around the 17th century in england. Up until this point there wants really any such thing s childhood or youth: with the discovery of childhood and youth came the feeling that we should have a separate court system for them. The more complex story: new work by historians complicates this overly simple story. There has always been at least some uncertainty about children and youth and when to consider people adults. There is a long history of showing leniency to young people.
