Anthropos = human beings, logy = the study of. Anthropology = the study of human nature, human society, and human past. Cultural anthropology: variation/differences in groups due to culture. Linguistics anthropology: look for relations between words we use to talk. Applied/developmental: putting knowledge from anthropology into about the world, and the ways in which we think about the world practice, to make the world a better place. Anthropological perspectives: how anthropology is different from other fields (like psych/soc) Holistic- trying to fit together all that is known. Comparative- considers similarities and differences, in a wide array of cases. Evolution- how we got to where we are today. Culture: learned set of ideas and behaviours that we acquire as members of society. Fieldwork is an important component of a cultural anthropologist. Can only be seen through a long period of spending time with people of other cultures. Study informants - natives to another/different country.
