People use both western biomedical systems and indigenous practices. Culture as that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities acquired by man as a member of society . Culture isn"t static, it changes based on your education, environment, armed conflict, as people move. From a western biomedical perspective this makes sense, during the rainy season it"s more likely that sanitation means break down and therefore there"s more chance of infection and diarrheal disease revealing the worms. But if the western physicians tried to get mothers acception to give their children deworming medication, the mothers didn"t accept as this implied that healthcare providers were undermining the mothers beliefs and saying they were wrong. So instead, a compromise, suggested children to be dewormed just before the rainy season to avoid the problem of agitated worms. Disease vs illness: disease is the outsider view, usually the western biomedical definition.
