We"ll ask how they are formed, and what the beneits and costs are. Forming groups: social group: a collection of individuals who interact with one another and share similar goals and a sense of unity. E. g. , citizen of canada , ubc student , professional athlete : social groups come with a set of privileges/beneits that only members of the group get to enjoy ie, if you are a canadian citizen: you can own property in. Canada, have access to health care, travel freely to and from. Canada, etc: but social groups also have costs/requirements: ie, if you are a canadian citizen: you must pay taxes, must follow the canadian rule of law, etc. Almost anything: if you notice a similarity between yourself and another person in some trait, you will assume that you two are similar and are likely to cooperate. Twelve-year old boys participated in study where they attended summer camp.
