Dsm definition of mental disorder: a behavioural or psychological syndrome or pattern that occurs in an individual, the consequences of which are clinically significant distress (ex. A symptom of a personality disorder in dsm-iv. Proposed as a behavioural disorder for dsm-5. Group of experts: members of mood disorders and child/adolescent disorders workgroups, advisors with particular expertise in nssi. Lots of emails and phone discussions: separateness, clinical significance, threshold, defining characteristics, differentiation from other behaviours/disorders. The absence of suicidal intent is either report by the patient or can be inferred by frequent use of methods that the patients knows, by experience, not to have lethal potential. The patient anticipates these will occur either during or immediately following the self-injury. Psychology 102: developmental, social, personality, and clinical psychology. Generalized anxiety disorder: feeling unexplainably tense and worried, no specific threat/hanger, 6 months or more + tension/fatigue/irritability/restlessness, etc.
