Antonio snider-pellegrini worked on ortelius" idea and suggested that all the continents was joined. Found the similarity of carboniferous plant fossils in n america and europe. Suggested the continents were split by the great flood described in genesis. Charles darwin realized some mechanism must be continually uplifting the mountains to compensate for the material lost to erosion. Noticed some rocks were physically raised out of the ocean by the earth movements. = the first attempt at a grand unifying theory of geology. Explains the location of mountains, oceans, earthquakes, volcanoes, and all other geological features.
