Document Summary

Btwn sister-chromatids means nothing and a waste of energy. Can occur anywhere anytime but when certain hotspot. Like traffic accident, some interaction has a higher possibility of accident. What can happen during meiosis in the region bwtn the two genes: nothing happened, something happened (meiosis with single cross over) Either all parental or half parental and half recombinant. Some genes are too far to have recombination. Parental gametes goes up in frequency and recombinant gametes go down. Because parental goes up and recombinant goes down: genes are not far away, more parental than recombinant, one map unit = one percent recombinant. Smaller distance, smaller recombinant: best way to do map unit. Make a dihybrid and do a test cross: physical linkage. Recombination is random and may occur anywhere along the paired homologous chromosomes. Less recombinant between two genes that are close. More recombinant btwn two genes that are far. Less than 50 mu means not genetically linked.
