Sex is defined as the biological character of individuals, that is, their femaleness or maleness. Gender is the social construction of gender roles. It is the socialization of people to gender appropriate behaviour reinforced by interaction with family, friends, peers, the school system, the community, and the political & economic systems. Girl-friendly sport & female values (lenskyj, 1994) Most canadians believe that housework and raising children should be shared equally by women and men. This belief, however, is not often put into practice. 52% of wives employed full-time had all of the responsibility for daily housework. Only 10% of dual-earning couples shared responsibility for housework equally. (statistics canada, 2000)
