Module 05: police occupational stress and the police subculture: danger and the murder of police officers. In this lecture, dr. desroches will deal with research on police"s occupation as stressful including issues related to the murder of police officers, how dangerous the job is, and other indices of stress including suicides in substances abuse. They are dealing with people who are very hostile and they faced the stress and they also face the danger. To what extend, policing is a stressful occupation. In fact, there has been quite enough research on this and dr. desroches will simply summarize the highlights of these research findings. When you looked at the statistics canada"s data and they complied data from 1961 to 2009, a summary they did and published in 2010. 1961 to 2009, appeared of 49 years, there were 133 police officers who were murdered in the line of duty in canada.
